AMD Ryzen Z1 is the “Zen4” Lineup for the Handheld Game Consoles

AMD introduces the new Ryzen Z1 series processors, dubbed as “the ultimate high-performance processor for handheld PC gaming consoles”.

The Ryzen Z1 Series includes two high-performance processors, the Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme, both of which provide industry-leading gaming experiences, unrivaled battery life, and AMD RDNA 3 architecture-based graphics.

AMD also states that the Ryzen Z1 and Z1 Extreme will be exclusive to ASUS for the time being, however, other hardware manufacturers may join later.

Jason Banta, corporate vice president and general manager, Client OEM at AMD, stated, “We are constantly pushing forward the next level of gaming experiences, ranging from consoles and desktops to handheld devices on the go. The Ryzen Z1 processors provide gamers with a top-tier gaming experience and exceptional portability, packed in an impressive gaming form factor.”

The AMD Ryzen Z1 includes a six-core Zen 4 CPU with twelve threads, as well as four RDNA 3 cores to handle the GPU side. The chipset boasts a total cache of 22MB. AMD asserts that the Ryzen Z1 can achieve graphics performance of up to 2.8 teraflops.

Meanwhile, the Ryzen Z1 Extreme boasts an eight-core Zen 4 CPU with sixteen threads, coupled with twelve RDNA 3 GPU cores and 24MB of cache. The graphics performance of the Ryzen Z1 Extreme is rated at up to 8.6 teraflops.

In terms of numbers, AMD released a graph of the Z1 and Z1 Extreme engineering samples running a few popular gaming titles at 1080p resolution and low settings.

Both new chipsets support USB 4, as well as LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X memory. AMD Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) upscaling, Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening, and AMD Link will also be included in the new chipsets.

AMD Ryzen Z1 CPUs will initially be available in the ASUS ROG Ally. ASUS will reveal further details regarding the ROG Ally’s availability and pricing on May 11.
