Diablo 4 is Blizzard’s “Fastest-Selling Game of All Time.”

Diablo 4 sale

Blizzard proudly declares that Diablo 4 has become their “fastest-selling game of all time.” Although the exact number of copies sold remains undisclosed, these impressive figures encompass sales across all platforms up until June 5th, just before the action RPG’s highly anticipated full launch.

Previously, Blizzard dubbed World of Warcraft: Shadowlands the “fastest-selling PC game of all time” in 2020 after it sold 3.7 million copies on or before its release date. This surpassed Blizzard’s previous record-holder, Diablo 3, which sold 3.5 million copies in 2012. (Cyberpunk 2077 outsold those figures later that year, selling 4.72 million PC copies, over a total of 8 million.) Diablo IV must have sold at least 3.7 million copies between PC and console.

Furthermore, during the initial access period of four days, players collectively spent a staggering 93 million hours immersed in the game. To put this immense gameplay time into perspective, it is equivalent to an astonishing 10,000 years.

Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson says, “This is a moment years in the making for the Diablo IV team. We’re extremely proud to offer players the richest story ever told in a Diablo game. Players have a range of choices, including personal character customization, equipping personalized skills for battling horrific demons, or collecting Legendary loot to support your playstyle while discovering new ones. Since the game was first announced in 2019, the support from millions of players around the world drove us toward this release of our dark vision of Sanctuary. Hail Lilith, Blessed Mother.”

For comparison with the recent best-selling games, Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, available on the Nintendo Switch, has achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo video game in history. Since its release on May 12th, it managed to sell an astonishing 10 million copies within just three days, surpassing the previous record set by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate back in 2018.

On the other hand, within a span of three days, Street Fighter 6 has achieved a milestone of surpassing one million units in worldwide shipments and digital sales combined.
